Unfinished Thoughts from an American Country Boy:

Seeing I (Joy) have done all the blogging so far, I wanted to feature my hubby's perspective. So I asked him to just type whatever came to mind, so while waiting in the airport in Detroit Sunday morning...this is what came out:

If you are South African, and you are reading this, enjoy laughing at my naivety...

It is time… We are going to a place that I have always wanted to go, and we are going to do some of the things that I have always wanted to do. I am traveling with my best friend to the other side of the world, to Africa; to a place where… well, I have no idea what happens there, except that it produces some of the most amazing people on the planet. My heart is full of great expectation right now, expectation to see more of what happened when the father spoke life to this diverse expanse. To see a world far far away, a world that many only dream of seeing. I am so excited. I can’t wait to smell the African soil, to taste the coffee, drive purposefully on the wrong side of the road, love people, and oh yeah hug a giraffe. Seriously, I wanna hug a stinkin' giraffe – my favorite animal, mind you… have you ever seen one of those majestically clumsy creatures gallivant around? I have only seen it happen on National Geographic. Okay, I’ve seen them at the zoo as well, but they just stand there and wonder about the wild… I’m going to their place. We are going to camp in the game reserve and snuggle with the lions…grrr!

(to be continued)

I have read everything up through 10/17. This is my absolute favorite post!!! Many of us can identify with your part of the excursion because we have never been there either. Thanks, Joe, for sharing your thoughts.

Giraffe seems safe enough for me. If it were Australia, I might opt for a koala bear. But in Africa, a Giraffe will do nicely. AND, I hope you really do see at least one lion!!!

Will you get a chance to fellowship with other Christians (non-family)?

Cheers,

ckc
